WHY TRUST YOUR PROFESSIONAL FUTURE TO ELKINS? Elkins Institute (EI) has been training mariners and aviation specialists for over 50 years. You can be confident of the reliability and professionalism of the technical training and licensing EI offers because the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) have approved all Elkins Training classes, where appropriate.

HISTORY:
BFT Training Unlimited, Inc. (BFT)
functions through its Elkins Institute (EI) Division as a Commercial Operator License Examination Manager (COLEM) for the Federal Communications Commission in the United States. Currently, BFT's day to-day business is providing technical training, licensing and certification to international organizations, national administrations, non-governmental organizations and businesses in the maritime and aviation industries, throughout the world. At one time, EI was the largest group of technical trade schools in the United States. Now EI has over 150 affiliate sites in the U.S. that provide FCC license exams, including numerous Community Colleges and Technical Schools.

After a successful examination process, a certificate (called a Proof of Passing Certificate - PPC) is issued as a temporary FCC Commercial Communications License, until the FCC issues their permanent license. These PPC's are also recognized in many countries for non-U.S. residents in the issuance of their own country's licenses, especially in the areas of Marine Radio Operator Permits and GMDSS Radio Operator Licenses. We also publish study guides available for FCC licenses exam preparation. BFT's CEO is the author/editor of the USCG's Theoretical Test Pool for GMDSS and the Committee Chairman with oversight responsibility for the FCC and the USCG GMDSS test pools.

Elkins Training Company (ETC), BFT's Training Division, conducts the actual training courses throughout the U.S. and various other sites across the globe. We teach U.S. Coast Guard-approved (also IMO-approved) STCW GMDSS courses and enjoy an excellent working relationship with the U.S. Coast Guard. ETC has the capability to go anywhere in the world, set up a GMDSS lab for instruction, provide training materials and even train the instructors. ETC has excellent working relationships with all of the U.S. maritime academies, unions, and most of the major Fortune 500 maritime-oriented companies.

EMTI offers expertise in maritime training, safety, satellite communications and international affairs, and performs worldwide training to meet STCW-95 requirements. EMTI additionally provides training institutions the opportunity to purchase a franchise training package.
